Q: Cannot find most recent fcpx project?

I cannot find the most recent project I have been working on in FCPX?

I have done a few sessions, did not have any issues saving or crashing, but for some reason the project is just not listed?

What can I do to try and search for this project?

All my projects are in a single library on an external drive

I clone that drive recently using SuperDuper, just a routine "smart" backup, I think the disappearing project happened after this last backup a the clone.

I dont see any orphaned projects in my user folder?

Any thoughts greatly appreciated. I can rebuild it fairly easily, but I am perplexed as to what might have happened.

I tried copying the "lost" project over to my main library on the external HDD, but it did not show up when I opened the library. I was hoping I could then add the media and it would reconnect.

When I open the backup file and see the "lost" project and click on the drop down arrow, there is a project there, when I click on that nothing happens? Perhaps it is easier to start over at this point, but I thought I would be able to easily retrieve the edit points and xml data from that project?

    Thanks for all the support,

If you are seeing Missing Media alerts, you should use the Relink command  as Al was suggesting.

I had asked where the media was stored because if it were in the library, it would need to be relocated outside the library for FCP to see it for re-linking.

Right now I cannot find the proejct in the timeline, so there is nothing to re-link?

I tried to create a new event with the same title and fcpx said that name already exists? But it is not in the Projects dropdown? Is there any way to "search" for a project or force it to open?

You indicated earlier that your project was in the backup library…or did I misunderstand you. If I did not, then re-link from the backup project.

When I open that library and click on the project, nothing opens in the timeline?

If you could post a few screen shots of what you see it may help us figure out what we are dealing with.

To make a screen shot use Command-Shift-4 then drag the area of your screen required.

The screen shot is added to your Desktop.

The shot can then be dragged directly into your post.

I don't believe this is possible once it's saved.

What you could do is after finding the Clip that was edited into. The one you thought was a Project. Do this:

Create a New Project, File>New> Project:

    Screen Shot 2016-06-03 at 8.11.51 PM.png

Go to your clip that was opened in the Timeline and open it into the Timeline.

Select one clip and hit Command-A to select all.

    Copy all the clips.

    Open the Newly created Project.

    Paste clips into the Project.

The main story line is the audio with only one connected clip.

Maybe this is an older backup, it's related to  2015 somehow ( maybe FCPro to X) and created in May 2016 ??

If there were more offline clips they would appear RED. Screen Shot 2016-06-04 at 10.51.18 AM.png

The Duplicates "Big Stix" are not doubled media, one indicates a Keyword Collection. Blue icon.

Do you want to get this Project as is back or try another Backup?

It seems it will be better to build it again. I am not sure why there is not a more up to date backup. I worked on the project over the course of a week or so?

Anyway, if only the audio and that one c.ip are in this backup, then it is faster for me to start again.

In retrospect is there something I can set to make sure my project are always copied to the correct EXT HDD? I have not had this issue before and all current projects were going to my EXT HDD?

Thanks so much for the amazing support!

Sorry we could not sort it out.

    Try this :

Click on a Library in the Browser, the Inspector shows this:

Modify Settings shows existing places your stuff goes and can be changed to suit your needs:

That's what I have as my settings as well. I think something happened when I had both the EXT HDD adn its Clone both mounted, I could go back and study the clone more, but as I said it is probably better to just make a new version, already in process.

    The support was fantastic!!!!
