Blue Yeti no longer works when upgraded to 10.11.5

Wanted to ask if any one else may have had this issue.

Blue Yeti has been working flawless then on the day I updated to OX X El Captain 10.11.5 the mic no longer works with Screenflow or Garage Band.

Could it just be a weird coincidence and the Blue Yet Mic is broken. The light is on when plugged in so it has power. Any ideas on how to test it?.

iMac (27-inch, Late 2012), OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

Try setting up the Yeti as new

  • Connect Yeti with the supplied USB cable.
  • Click Apple menu -> System Preferences.
  • Select Sound.
  • Click the Output tab, and select Yeti Stereo Microphone under Select a device for sound output.
  • Click the Input tab, and select Yeti Stereo Microphone under Select a device for sound input.
  • Exit System Preferences

If it still doesn't work try resetting the SMC Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

I don't have one but can you try a different USB cable?

I've just tried plugging a Blue Yeti into a mid 2010 iMac running OS X 10.11.5. The small USB connector on the Yeti does not have the letters 'USB' next to it. First time I plugged in, a generic 'Line Microphone' appeared in the Sound Input Devices and pushing the (unlit) mute button would would mute and un-mute the *speakers*. I unplugged it, logged out, logged in, and then plugged it in again and this time the mute button glowed red, a 'Yeti Microphone' item appeared in the Sound preferences panel and based on a quick test it seems to be working okay. I haven't, however, tried it for an extended period of recording yet and I'll definitely want to do this before relying on it for something important.

Is the 'sound level thermometer' in the sound preferences jumping around when you are speaking?

Anyway, I've done some more testing. The following worked fine:

Audacity v2.1.0.0

Quicktime Player v10.4

Garage Band '09 v5.1

The only 'gotcha', which made me think that there was something wrong for a few seconds, was to get the 'sound output' setting correct in the System Preferences; I found it was set to using the Yeti monitor instead of the iMac speakers, which were therefore silent...

The iMac I'm using has USB 2.0 connections, not USB 3.
