Q: Can't get pdf from Mac onto iPhone.

Hi,

I have a fully software up-to-date mac and iphone.

I have a pdf at around 20mb my mac, I would like to read it on my iPhone.

I have tried the following:

  • Adding the pdf to my iBooks application. iBook is set to sync everything however the pdf if not appearing in iBooks on the iPhone
  • I AirDropped the pdf to the iphone, the dialouge window popped up with "Open in... iBooks". Then I pressed the iBooks option and it launched but the pdf is not in there. I tried it a few times but it just opens iBooks without opening the pdf. I have also checked that there are no filters on this as well and pdfs are displayed.

I've checked and read quite a lot of the pdf so it is deff opening on the mac in iBooks and preview.

I litrally just want to open this document on my iPhone, it's a bit too send by email.

Can anyone reccoemnd any other ways to read a pdf on my iphone?

Thanks.

    Hello Wolfsoap,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I see that you are having issues with getting PDFs from your Mac to your iPhone. I have several things for you to check and a couple of ways to do it.

First, I would take a look at Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iTunes on your computer using USB and make sure that you have syncing set up correctly.

Next, this article provides steps on syncing PDF's to your iPhone: Use iBooks with PDF documents on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, specifically, this section:

    Sync and save PDFs

The first time that you open iBooks after you update to iOS 9.3 or OS X 10.11.4, you'll be prompted to use iCloud. Learn more about syncing your books and PDFs using iCloud.
You can also add PDFs to your iTunes library on your computer by dragging and dropping the PDF into your iTunes Book library. The files will appear when you are preparing your device to sync. If you're using OS X Mavericks or later, drag and drop your PDFs into your iBooks library using iBooks for Mac. All PDF or iBook files in your iBooks library are available to sync to your iOS device via iTunes.
To sync a PDF from your computer to iBooks on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:
Select your iOS device. (Learn how to sync your data with iTunes.)
    Under Settings, click Books.
    Select Sync Books.
If iTunes is set to sync only selected books, make sure that there's a check in the checkbox next to the PDF you want to sync.
    Click Sync.
You can also use iTunes to back up your PDF files. To transfer PDFs to your computer and back them up, transfer purchases from your iOS device to your computer. These files are not in an iTunes Backup. Learn more about what's contained in iTunes and iCloud backups.

And finally, this article provides information on syncing with iCloud Drive:

Sync ePub, iBooks Author books, and PDF files with iBooks and iCloud

    Best regards.
