I understand that you are unable to use WhatsApp after you recently updated it. Let's go over some general troubleshooting to get that sorted out.
With most apps downloaded from the App Store, I would start with following the steps outlined in the article below. It will walk you through restarting the app and the device. You might even need to delete WhatsApp and then download it again.
