Q: While on YouTube 3 characters of an Oriental language appeared on iPadMini

iOs 9.3.2   32GB iPadMini 1

I was on YouTube and suddenly saw in upper right corner of Pad Mini three Oriental characters that soon disappeared.  I wondered about it.

THe next morning, May 31, I noticed the iPad was hot and the battery was in the teens, much lower than I had noticed the night before.

THEN. last night, June 1st,  I saw the wifi icon was missing.  BUT the wifi was normal on the iPhone and iPad Air.  On the Mini, I clicked on the wifi address in Settings and

FOUND IP ADDRESS  169.254.136.219, SUBNET MASK  255.255.00  WHICH DID NOT AGREE WITH THE IPHONE OR IPAD AIR, PLUS THERE WERE NO NUMBERS  FOR THE ROUTER OR DNS.    THAT NIGHT, JUNE 1, I TURNED IPADMINI OFF COMPLETELY.

THIS MORNING, JUNE 2 I LOOKED UP THAT IP ADDRESS AND GOT  ALL UNKNOWNS.  TODAY THE MINI WAS BACK TO NORMAL.

  THANK YOU.

I DO NOT KNOW IF THE IPADMINI HAS BEEN INFECTED NOR WHETHER THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN.

    Hello afrompittsfield,

Thanks for posting to Apple Support Communities! I understand you saw a bit of behavior you didn't expect on your iPad mini running iOS 9.3.2 this week. You're in the right place for help.

In this case, it sounds like your iPad mini was able to return to expected behavior. If this happens in the future, I'd recommend giving the iPad mini a restart. Here's how:

    How to restart

    1. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
    2. Drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
    3. After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.

In regards to your observation regarding the IP address and subnet mask data, these numbers are variable and can change with each connection to a Wi-Fi access point. If this information isn't similar to other devices on your network or you're unable to connect to the internet, joining the network again may help. Follow the steps here to forget this network:

Tap Settings > Wi-Fi >   > Forget this network. Then try to rejoin.

I hope this helps. Enjoy your weekend!
