Q: IPhone will not identify supported carriers in South Africa.

I recently got a IPhone as a gift. The carrier in Australia unblocked the device. In South Africa I get a message ""The sim card inserted in theIPhone does not appear to be supported. It only picks up 1 carrier in SA whereas we have 4 or more. Can the device be reset? The device software is up to date.

iPhone 5s, iOS 9.3.2

That message is an indication that the phone is not unlocked.

After the carrier approves the unlock, there are additional steps that must be taken to complete the unlock.
