Deleting fonts in Font Book - they won't go!

Following on from the suggestion that duplicate fonts can slow your machine down, I thought I'd try delete some fonts that I'd never use, so I started with Korean ones. I selected them, hit delete, I was asked to confirm, all seemed normal but the fonts are still there?? I tried deleting individually, using 'Remove..' from the file menu - nothing seems to work. Any ideas anyone?

MacBook Pro 17, G5 2.7DP, Pismo, Ibook, iPod 2G, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Some fonts are simply not removeable via FontBook. If you get Font Info (Command-I) and you see the directory it resides in is either…

/Library/Fonts
/System/Library/Fonts

… then FontBook won't remove them. It is suggested that you leave them where they are and just disable them in Font Book.

if you have ms office installed, it will also duplicate fonts. even if you remove them, it installs them automatically next time you run it.

you can rename the "Fonts" folder under Applications/Microsoft Office/Office/. By doing this, you will not allow Office to duplicate fonts.

i found some duplicate fonts, but all duplicates are automaticly disabled, is that as good as deleting them?

Pretty much. They wont cause any conflicts or slowdowns. The only difference is the files are still on your computer. Other then that, its just as good.

1st time Mac user here.

How do I know they're duplicates? If I have a font installed in the User & Computer part of font book...is that considered a duplicate. That seemed to be the only way I could get certain fonts to be available in programs like Photoshop.
