Apple Mail - Sender name and address displaying incorrectly

El Capitan - All up-to-date

Let me see if I can explain this clearly. It's very strange

I send a message to a client, and I Cc my team on the email. It looks something like this...

--------------------------------------

From: me"at"gmail.com

To: client"at"gmail.com

Cc. team"at"gmail.com

Subject: XYZ

Thanks,

me"at"gmail.com

--------------------------------------

The client hits "Reply All", and the meessage looks like this:

--------------------------------------

From: team"at"gmail.com

To: me"at"gmail.com and team"at"gmail.com

Subject: Re: XYZ

Thanks,

client"at"gmail.com

--------------------------------------

Basically, my email client is changing the name of the Sender to the group email even though the email clearly comes from the client.

Gmail through a web browser is displaying the sender correctly and other people on the team see the sender correctly. It's only happening to me.

My plan is to remove the account from mail, reset all settings to get mail back to factory state, and add the account back in. Before I do that, I wanted to see if you guys had any suggestions?

FYI, Rebuild Mailbox did not fix the problem.

Thanks.

Brian

First try selecting the Mailbox and use Rebuild from Mailboxes in the menu.

If the rebuild function doesn't work, try reindexing mail. Follow these steps:

Quit Mail.

In the Finder menu, select Go, then Go to Folder and paste this path and hit Go:

~/Library/Mail/V3/MailData

In the Finder window that open to that folder in your user library, move all files with Envelope Index or ExternalUpdate to the trash. Open Mail and hit continue and let it finish. It may take a while if you have lots of email.

See if that helps.

Ok...deleting the files in the directory didn't work.

Here is the raw text in a sequence of 3 screenshots. It won't let me paste the text for some reason.

For the sake of clarity...Susan is the person that is having the problem in her inbox. Ben sent a reply to Jack and Cc'd Production which Susan is a part of.

I changed URLs to protect privacy.

Please let me know if I am showing something here that I shouldn't be showing.

Ok...so the Gmail version says the same thing...

So it seams like Apple Mail is displaying the "Via" address (e.g. the origin of how Sue got the email) and Gmail is showing the senders address. Is that correct in my understanding?

Any idea why Apple Mail is doing that and how I can stop it from doing that?

If you try to open a message and instead see an alert telling you to take the account online (but it’s already online), or messages appear incomplete, garbled, or incorrect, try these suggestions.

Display the message in another format. Choose View > Message > Plain Text Alternative. The alternatives available depend on the original format of the message.

For a POP account, reimport mailboxes . Choose File > Import Mailboxes, then select Apple Mail. In the Import dialog, display the Library folder (hidden by default) in your home folder by pressing Command-Shift-G, then entering ~/Library. In ~/Library/Mail/V2, select the folder that begins with “POP-” (for example, POP-eharrold@mail.example.com).
