Why is my document size double when I save as doc file?

Hi guys, I am perplexed.

I have a pages doc file that is 13.3 MB (the correct size for uploading to Smashwords).

Edit: 2 pics were not 'in line with text' fixed.

I re saved this document in a new blank file.

Now it is 26 MB (too large to upload)

This is a mystery to me. What made the file larger? There are no added fonts or pictures.

Any help will give me a fresh day and a hope for my title.

And heal my heart. This has caused me so much frustration.

Thanks in advance.

Open the Word document that you exported from Pages in either LibreOffice Writer, or MS Word, and then resave it. The file size will decrease by a wide margin.

The woefully complex and proprietary internal document format that Pages now uses, causes big bloated Word exports during translation.

I can create a new Pages v5.6.2 document using a Blank template. I can type the single letter 'A' in it, and then export it to Word (.docx). The file size will be about 494 KB. That is true bloat.

Thanks VikingOSX

This seems to be the right resolution. It is so weird. The file originally was 13.3 in Pages.doc format, and now it is bloated!

Something happened in between a few days.

Now, I need to download LibreOffice Writer or MS Word to make a simple file maneagable.

I do appreciate your helping hand and applaud you, and thank you. It feels right. I was born in a Viking town in Ireland, where they burn a ship every year in memory of the great invasion in 800AD or so. I don't remember back that far! Thanks. 🙂
