How do I add my new mac to my apple id so that I can set up iBooks?

I recently bought a mac pro. I am trying to log in to iBooks with my apple id and am receiving the following error message; your device or computer could not be verified. Contact support for assistance.

Hi Tamsmaillet, sorry to hear you are having trouble with your first Mac. I'll try and help.

It seems Carolyn Samit's instructions weren't detailed enough for you to follow.

First of all, the copy and paste commands are available in every application in the "Edit" menu. You can also use Keyboard commands,

Copy: "Command" key + "C"

Paste: "Command" key + "V"

What Carolyn wanted you to do was select the text, /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration and then use the copy command to copy it to the clipboard.

Now go to the Dock at the bottom of the screen and click on "Finder" (far left icon)

Now go to the "Go" menu at the top of the screen and select the "Go to Folder…" command (near the bottom)

In the "Go to the folder" field paste the text you copied above. It should look similar to this.

User uploaded file

This will take you to a directory labelled "SystemConfiguration." In that directory find the file called "Networkinterfaces.plist" and drag it to the Trash (far right on the Dock.)

Now restart your computer and try logging back in to your Apple ID in iBooks.

Hi Gino,

I really appreciate your taking the time to try and help me. Maybe I'm just not meant to have a mac. I am beyond frustrated and thinking I will have to take drastic measures and hire a tutor LOL. Almost not joking.

I tried following your direction but am still stuck with the first part. I know how to copy and paste well enough.

Where do I select the above text from? And when I go to Finder I do not have a Go menu or a Go to folder command anywhere that I can see...

Before you can copy something you must select it. To select text you click and drag across the screen. The text you were instructed to select was the following line of text, /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration.

The fact that you had trouble understanding how to select text and could not find the "Go" menu and the "Go to folder" command suggests to me that you do need someone to tutor you on how to use a Mac and probably some basic computer skills. If you are located close to an Apple Store you can go in for some workshops, otherwise I suggest taking some at a local community college.
