iPad Pro draining when plugged in

Ok so i also have the 12.9 model. Say your battery has 10% juice, you plug it in before going to beD. I upgraded to the usb-c charger too. It will charge up to 100% then slowly drain back to zero WHILE plugged in!!

I've noticed that if i simply unplug the power from the ipad at any time and then give it 2 seconds and then plug it in, it will start charging back up to 100% again.

So i dont think that it has anything to do that the ipad is drawing too much power, rather i think it is a bug with the units charging logic. Apple.. Please fix this!

I'm having the same problem. i bought my iPad pro 12.9 jan 2017 (had for 2 weeks now) and the iPad won't charge while in use. i contacted apple support but I've had no luck from them so far. Any fixes anyone?

If, as Diana says, the charger supplied with the ipad can't charge it and power it at the same time, then the only solution at the moment is to alter your use to allow charging time.

For example, as I use my mini I charge it every night. You may wish to alter your work flow to accommodate that. Maybe, if you're at work, use a charger at work to charge it while you're at lunch. (I often have to charge my iPod during the day because the battery just doesn't last all day with what I use it for).

They also sell batteries....as in batteries that you charge and then can use as emergency power for your devices. They're pretty common and affordable anymore. If you choose to go that route, just look for one with 10W of power, not 5...one specifically for an iPad not just a phone.

It ca, especially if the power block you are using delivers less power than your device uses. Plug a full sized iPad into a USB port and, for most USB's, they give out less power than the iPad is using....so you're filling a bucket with a teacup as someone draws water out of it with a gallon jug.

It can be common for people to use iPhone chargers and not realize they give half the power of iPad chargers.

iPad Pro 12.9, Sept 2017, bought at Best Buy, same charging issues that others describe, tried all suggestions and none solved issue, played around and found the ISSUE...DISCONNECT YOUR KEYBOARD FROM IPAD AND THEN CHARGE, all issues, glitchy battery and charger icons, etc. went away and works as supposed to...slow.

Also, to increase the charging speed for the 12.9 inch screen, read to get the 29W Apple plug (that should come with the unit, not the outdated 12W Apple plug) and a USB-C cord to iPad and should cut charging time in half, going to get and try that today...will report back here IF not work or an issue.

CRAPple products in general are so far behind Android / Windows now the best thing you can do is get a less expensive better quality non Apple device and move on. My company forced us into the Apple world and my productity has dropped in half with issues. You’ll note on this forum that CRAPple never has a solution ... it’s always the way YOU are using it ... never CRAPple.

****** I have the same issue I left my screen on all night to monitor a download to a server and by morning the battery was drained. This never happened when we were using Android.

I have a similar problem. When I plug my iPad pro in, it charges. If I start to use it after it has started charging, it stops charging. If I unplug it and plug it back in, it will start charging again. So, if I'm using it while it is plugged in, every time I stop and start using it, I have to take the plug out and put it back in or it isn't charging. Anyone else have this?

How are you charging it? May or may. not be the case with the pro, but generally, say you’re trying to charge via USB or using an iPhone charger, neither of those give enough power for an iPad so they device will only trickle charge.

if y ou are using the supplied 10 - 12W charger and it’s doing then there may be something odd going on. If your’re using USB from. computer or a third party or iphone charger that could be part of the issue

I charge it a number of ways and it always does the same thing. Depending on where I am, I use either USB from my mac, the charger that came with the iPad, or my anker charger. I don't see how this could be the charger. If the charger was the issue, I'd think that it would either charge or not. If I plug it in and start using it, it stops charging. Once I unplug it and plug it back in, it charges just fine while I'm using it and it continues to charge when I'm done using it.

I am indeed using the Logitech keyboard and in the unscientific test I just conducted, it is the keyboard that stops the charging. Odd, though, that it stops it until i unplug and plug it back in, then it’s fine. Wonder why that is. Either way, thanks!

Its 2017, not 2001, it should not drain power while plugged in.

Im using a lighting to type-C and a MacBook Pro charging block. using a 57 watt charging block still doesn’t keep my 12.9 going.

If your iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the battery may drain. Try using the USB power adapter and USB cable that came with the iPad to connect with a wall power outlet.
