Q: random shutdown

Good day everyone, as the title say, I'm experiencing random shutdowns with mu MBP 3.1

A couple of months ago I had a GPU problem wich I fixed by replacing the mainboard with an "upgraded" chip.

It happens no matter if the battery is there of not and it's the same with the charger. Replaced the ram with Owc units.

At this point I don't know if it's hardware or software related so here's a report:

    this error message:

    (4SNS/1/40000000 TSOP

since its last few digits are zero, it may mean a sensor is disconnected.

If it were something like this:

    (4SNS/1/40000126 TSOP

that could also be a disconnected sensor, since the raw data value shown MAY be toward the end of its range (in this case all binary 1-bits produces a reading that is a power two, and you are almost there).

Thank you.    Based on the the way you phrase it, these are not necessarily 100% accurate, rather just most likely to be the case?

    Ciao.

    It's just a possibility, not a certainty.

Fixing a disconnected wire is SO much cheaper than replacing a motherboard.

If you are getting near the endpoint readings, it is worth checking for disconnected wires. The Zero point makes sense, but the report of raw (unscaled) data almost a power of two is not so obvious.

After reading those posts yesterday I decided to check for unplugged sensor so I hoped open the top case. I saw 4 temp sensors total and they where all plugged in. I unplugged the one in the palm rest and plugged it back to make sure everything was ok. I think my problem comes from the wire that goes to the main board, it is really easy to remove and doesn't click or lock in place. Like if it is used or "loose". What I did is I took a small piece of cereal box, folded to get the right height so the top case would push down on the connector when back in place. I've not experienced 1 shutdown since then, I'll keep testing tonight and for a couple of days and let you guys know. Thanks for the help!!

Kudos on your imaginative problem solution.  That is what I would expect someone to do i they were in the nether regions of the Amazon.

    Ciao.

It's just a temporary fix. I don't want to spend money to get crashes again. I'll fix it properly in a couple of seeks if it works great.

I Just noticed I fixed my trackpad at the same time. It was not really precise and moving left and right by itself sometimes. It's lk now
