Q: Samsung wireless surround won't work with Airport wifi network

I have a smart tv with a soundbar and two wireless speakers - all Samsung. I should be able to set up surround sound through the wireless network much like this http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber/popup/iframe/pop_troubleshooting_fr.jsp?idx= 629802&modelname=WAM7500&modelcode=WAM7500/ZA

This works fine when connecting to the router provided by my ISP, Sky. But when I try to do the same when connecting to the network created through Airport it won't work - specifically, I am unable to select “Multiroom link” (step 19 in the link above).

Note: There is no problem connecting to the wifi network - it's this final step that is the issue.

Any ideas as to why this may be the case?  I need to use the extended network as the wifi from the sky hub is very weak where the TV is.

Here's the setup ...

Router ----> Airport Extreme ----> Airport Express ----> TV + Surround Sound

(The Airport extreme is set to bridge mode and the Express extending the wifi network.)

Thanks

Jeremy

I'm not familiar with the Samsung wireless speakers, but let me see if I can help. What is the make & model of your Sky-provided router? Do you have it configured to provide a Wi-Fi network? Is the Wi-Fi network, provided by the Extreme and extended by the Express, a second wireless network with a different SSID or using the same SSID as the one provided by the Sky router?

Hi Tesserax - Thanks for your reply. The router is a Sky SR102. I believe it is configured to provide a Wi-Fi network as most of the things that access internet in my home are connected to the network created by the Extreme (with it's own name and password). In that case, yes, it is a different SSID. I guess what you're saying is I should configure the Extreme to extend the Sky's SSID? I'll work on it.:)

So, using the same SSID as the Sky router didn't work so I'm stuck with the same problem. Something about the apple wifi is preventing the "Multiroom link" from working. Curious

If you have the base stations properly configured for a roaming network with the Sky router, any wireless client should have both local network and Internet access. Is this currently what you have configured and is working for access?

If so, I am not sure why your Samsung system is not working properly, unless your router & the Apple base stations are not on the same network subnet. In my case I have a Bose Cinemate system which also has wireless speakers. However, they use Bluetooth for connectivity, not Wi-Fi.

I have almost the same setup: Router -> Airport Airport Extreme -> Airport Airport Express -> Samsung soundbar and R1 speakers. They're all connected via1 Gbps Ethernet and the Apple Airports are configured in bridged mode.

    Here's my Samsung setup:

    • TV: Samsung UE49KS8000 (connected via wired Ethernet)
    • Soundbar: Samsung HW-K650 (connected via Wi-Fi)
    • TV rear speakers: 2 Samsung R1s (connected via Wi-Fi)

The soundbar and speakers work fine when configured via the Samsung App in Group mode, so they're clearly all on the network and are able to communicate with each other. However, when I try to configure everything in Surround mode (either through the Samsung App or TV), I receive an error message telling me that the HW-K650 couldn't be found. The soundbar couldn't be accessed standalone from the TV via Wi-Fi either. It's therefore the communication between the TV and soundbar via Wi-Fi that's the problem. I tried moving my TV from wired to wireless Ethernet but the problem remained.

I then turned off my Apple Airport Express, enabled my Sky Q Silver box as a Wi-Fi access point, re-registered the Samsung devices and everything worked fine. There is definitely a problem with my Samsung TV trying to communicate with my Samsung soundbar via an Apple Airport Express. I haven't tried using my Apple Airport Extreme yet.

Thanks for your reply - I'll check the roaming network is set up correctly and see if that solves the issue.

Glad to see it's not just me with the issue. The problem is I'm not sure yet if it's an Apple issue or a Samsung one!

I managed to fix the issue by doing a factory default reset on both the airport extreme an the express. It may not be an option for you but it worked for me. Hope that helps.

I just picked up the Samsung HW-K650 and 2 Samsung Radiant R1s to go with my Samsung TV. I cannot connect the soundbar to the WiFi when WPA2 Personal security is set up on my Apple Airport Extreme Router. If I disable the security features and have open network it will connect. I was able to connect and get the latest firmware update. I'm getting frustrated and getting ready to return the speakers. The R1s connect fine.
