iCloud backup for iPhone 6 keeps increasing in size

Recently the iCloud backup for my iPhone 6 began increasing in size with each new backup. Day1 was 8mb, day2 - 1gb, day3 - 1.8gb. This will continue until my 5gb of iCloud storage is used up and then I delete the backup and start again. I am not adding anything significant to my iPhone to account for this daily growth. My estimated next backup size shows 127mb of doc and data and 260mb of Apps for a total of 387mb. I do not backup photos. How can I determine what is causing the backup to grow daily and be over 4gb? It seems like the prior backup is not deleting from iCloud properly.

The intent here is clearly to sell more iCloud space. I knew as soon as iCloud was rolled out and they only gave us 5GB of data that it wasn't going to be enough. Sure enough my iPhone 6s Plus has never been able to backup to the cloud because the backup file size is always slightly over 5GB and that is all we get for free. I'm not giving them $1 to backup my device that's ridiculous. I recently started having issues with the batter on my phone and of course Apple Support recommended I backup my phone to the iCloud and they said backing up with iTunes won't allow me to see if it is a software issue with the phone. They offered me to upgrade my 5GB plan of course. I said I'd do that and disconnected the chat and never did upgrade. It's sad to see Apple go in this direction, but I hate to say that I saw it coming all along.

I Have the same problem. I reset my network settings, rebooted the phone, deleted the backup, switched off the back up, rebooted the phone, signed out of iCloud, rebooted the phone, signed back in again, plugged the phone into the wall, put it into screen lock, went back to it after an hour and a new backup had been made. I had to go through this procedure about 4 times before it seemed to work. For a week my backup wasn't increasing in size, all was perfect. But yesterday my phone said my phone had never been backed up, my backup was zero bytes, but yet there was storage missing from the cloud. the phone was giving error messages when trying to back up. I've gone through the whole procedure again today and my backup seems to have worked. For now anyway.

Thanks for confirming this problem exists on more devices than mine. This problem will go undetected until a users iCloud space fills up or they could check the size of their iCloud backup to see if it is greater then estimated next backup size. I hope more people will respond if they have this problem so we can get Apple to investigate. Because of this problem I am doing more iPhone backups to my Mac via iTunes. I wish I could see the backup size on my Mac so I can compare it to the iCloud backup size.

I Did have this fault when I first bought my phone last Novrmber. I reported it to Apple and they said my backup must be increasing in size if that's what my phone is saying its doing. Eventually he greed to escalate the problem, Im still waiting for the call back! Then it all seemed fine until a few weeks ago. I thought it must've been because my phone crashed after I'd made a phone call (totally white screen) & that some thing had been corrupted. I think now that they must've fixed the problem in an update, but then 'unfixed' it with the last update? I have seen others reporting the same problem on this forum. Hopefully AppPle will fix it, although some people have ended up paying for extra storage in the cloud. Maybe that's what Apple's plan is.

I have observed that Apple is not good at communicating problems. They seem to silently fix them and never acknowledge that the problem existed. I am hopeful that the intent isn't to sell more iCloud space. If I see similar postings of this problem I will acknowledge that I have it also. One of the best work arounds is simply to delete the backup prior to plugging in for the night. It will then create a new backup of the correct size.
