problems with volume on logic 9

Hi,

I am having problems with volume on Logic 9.

When I record any audio , even when the volume on the fader for that specific track is turned down, audio still comes through.

The only way I can get rid of it, is to mute the channel, otherwise, I am unable to turn it down otherwise, leaving me no control over the volume of anything I record.

The problem doesn't occur on the midi tracks, for example a piano I recorded, the fader works fine, and i can increase or decrease the volume accordingly.

Perhaps its a setting or button that needs adjusting, can anyone help?
