my computer will not restart after the update
After the update the restart is stuck at about 75%. It just show the white/gray screen.

Force a shut down by holding the power button for an extended amount.

When I do that the apple and the bar comes up. After a few seconds it goes back to the white screen.
Boot into Recovery mode holding the command R key (or if necessary Internet Recovery, the option command R keys.

From the Utilities drop-down menu >Disk utility> Run the First Aid on your Macintosh HD
You can reinstall the OSX from here as well.
All good to have an up to date backup plan in place.
