23" Apple Cinema HD Display Power Problems

Good morning all,

I'm having some difficulty with my 23" display. Just as background, all my software and shareware is updated, so it does not seem to be a problem with that. I have my display plugged in and it will function and work great for a few days, but then seemingly when it wants it will shut off and not work for a few hours. I try restarting the computer to see if it will recognize the display and to no avail. Occasionally when the display decides to spontaneously work, I close my laptop to use the display, and again, the display stops working. Thank you very much for your all's help in this problem. Have a great day/week/etc.

I know it's been a while since this post started, but I finally took the display to an Apple Store and had them check it out. Turns out the power brick was faulty, and I was told that some of the displays from around the time they were put out have this problem. Took 3 days for the brick to be ordered and about $60.00, and my problem was solved. Hope that helps anyone else out there w/ this problem! Thanks to all for your suggestions & help.

I don't use MACs, but when I had odd behavior with my 23" ACD, I unplugged/plugged back in the cable going into the white power adapter brick, and this forced the monitor on for me. That made me think perhaps the brick was bad until I found WinACD, but since you don't use a PC, this isn't going to help you. However, I've seen posts where folks have had to replace the brick to fix their issues.

Try unplugging it, what does it do?

All of a sudden I am having the same problem. The display works then the next day it will not turn on. If we unplug it for a while then it does turn on. Also, if the display is left on overnight then as soon as I boot the mac it turns off and stays off! I just unplugged it for a couple of minutes and it is working now. This seems to be more than an isolated problem. I hope someone knows more about this.

Thank you!

Power down the G5, unplug the USB and firewire cables on the monitor cable, power cycle the monitor cable, then power up your G5. You will now have to control the monitor manually with the button on the lower right side. It should work fine now. I have a similar problem that I traced to the USB cable. Unplug it and the monitor is controlled manually, with it plugged in the G5 sends a serial command to the monitor, via the USB link, shutting down the monitor.

For me somehow the USB link was somehow not starting the monitor. Works fine now with manual control of the monitor power button.
