Why so difficult to update iOS?

I am finding it increasingly difficult to update my devices. The feeling is that the process stalls and just never reaches completion. I have tried going through iTunes but the process is just as frustrating. Please APPLE can you provide a progress bar or something to indicate whether anything is actually happening.

You are not addressing Apple here, this is a user to user support forum. Updates to provide a progress bar on the iPhone and iPad as you are running updates. I understand what stalls means, but I'm not sure what you are referring to "just as frustrating". I've updated my iPhones, iPads, and lately my Apple watch through many versions of software and do not find updating to be difficult. If you provide an explanation of what the problem seems to be, maybe someone can help.

EDIT: And why do you say that is too large for an update. Are you attempting to update OTA, or via iTunes?

Hi Chris, I tried OTA and then resorted to iTunes. The update is finally complete.

To answer as to why 1.80GB is large - Perhaps because we are in South Africa where the luxury of decent bandwidth is scarce - I am however on a good line. To wait over an hour for a single update (we have 4 devices in the home) is not convenient.

When updating OTA there seems to be no progress indication - a turning cog means very little if you have no idea when it will end.

The update stated it was 85MB yet it turned out to be double.

Perhaps if one could see that something was actually happening when updating OTA it would not be quite as frustrating.

Anyhow, I apologise for posting to a user forum. There is nothing anyone can help with.

Thank you for your response tho. Much appreciated.

[ I think I am highly irritated as I updated to El Capitan and find that my machines performance is almost halved. I cant revert back to Yosemite. This process took 3 download attempts. ]

I cannot respond regarding Mac computers, as I'm not a Mac user. I understand the difference when doing OTA updates, but different types of updates require different sizes. Any update done OTA has to download a compressed file and it has to expand on the phone. Doing it via iTunes will download the full update, and that can take longer and more bandwidth. It can be difficult I know. Because you have multiple devices like that, you may want to hold to do your updates until you are somewhere that you can get a public wi-fi and get the speeds you would need, if that is possible. No need to apologize, it isn't necessary.

If you want to check by going to one of the Mac forums, someone may be able to address your performance issues. Good luck.
