Q: Share custom garageband patches

I have a number of custom patches in GarageBand 10.1.2 on my MacbookAir, and would like to have these imported to garageband on my iMac.

Can anyone give a hint as how to achieve this ?

iMac (27-inch Mid 2010), OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

Are these patches youcreated yiurself and saved?

Then copy these patches from the place you saved them to ton the corresponding folder on your iMac. And restart GarageBand on the iMac.

By default, GarageBand will save patches you create and save from the Library Inspector in your Home folder in

    ~/Music/Audio Music Apps/Patches/Audio/

    For example:

Thanks Léonie, this worked. I do however have an additional question regarding patches.

Many patches from my previous version of garageBand I am finding in "legacy patches" on my MacBook Air, but in the same "legacy folder" on my iMac, I only find some of my own saved patches (they seem to reside in the "application support" folder for GarageBand). As I often use many of the legacy patches, I would very much like to have them also on my iMac. Any way to do this that you - or anyone else, know of ?

    PS

One way to do this, I guess, would be to save each "legacy" patch i would like to move, and then move it to the Patches/Audio folder on my iMac, but if there was a simpler way, I would like to know about it.

The legacy patches are instruments installed by previous versions of GarageBand, Logic, MainStage, or the jamPacks.

Did you have any of these installed on your older Mac?  The easiest way to install legacy instruments is to run the installer for the Legacy application.

if your legacy sounds have been installed by GarageBand '11, version 6.0.5, for example, run the GarageBand '11 installer from the DVD. or, if you installed GarageBand '11 from the AppStore, check, if you can see it on your other Mac in the Purchases tab of the AppStore, where you can view your Purchase history.

Otherwise open the topmost Library folder on the system hard drive on the Mac with the Legacy instruments and copy all missing files from the subfolders of

    /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/

to the corresponding folders on the other mac.

To transfer Legacy loops, copy missing files from /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/

Be sure to make a current backup of both macs before moving pars of the instrument library around. It is easy to make mistakes, as there are so many files.

I used a combination of your suggestions, and am all set, also on the Imac.

    Thanks again Léonie.
