El Capitan install from bootable USB not working
Hi all.
To start, I have a 13" MacBook Pro (circa 2009) that slowed right down and eventually began displaying the notorious folder with question mark.
I purchased a new hard drive straight away, supposedly with El Capitan already installed, but experienced difficulty turning the laptop on, as the progress bar would be interrupted with this before the computer restarted again:
Thinking something may have been wrong with El Capitan, I loaded it onto a bootable USB. To begin, the "Macintosh HD" showed up and stayed there for me to click on the bootable USB when holding "option" on restart, but now it shows up only intermittently, and often when it does, it disappears behind one of those cloud bursts (similar to when placing things in the trash). This generally means I only have the bootable USB detected, and when I go through that process, the progress bar freezes towards the end, or "Macintosh HD" is greyed out in Disk Utility, leaving me unable to erase it for fresh install.
Does this suggest a different hardware fault?
Thanks for any tips in advance!
