The band is bound to stretch a little but over time. Use the next hole available that is comfortable. Keeping the band clean may help.

Care and cleaning.
Keeping your Apple Watch and bands — as well as your skin — clean and dry will maximize comfort and prevent long-term damage to the watch. This is especially important after workouts or exposure to liquids such as sweat, soap, sunscreen, and lotions that can cause skin irritations.3
Clean your Apple Watch with a nonabrasive, lint-free cloth. Because Apple Watch is water resistant, you can dampen the cloth with clean water.
For Apple Watch Hermès, see these instructions for cleaning and wearing Apple Watch Hermès bands.

- Apple Watch is splash and water resistant but not waterproof. You can, for example, wear and use Apple Watch during exercise, in the rain, and while washing your hands. Submerging Apple Watch, however, is not recommended. Apple Watch has a water resistance rating of IPX7 under IEC standard 60529. The leather bands are not water resistant.
