Q: iMatch problems

Please help! I signed up for iMatch because I knew I would be getting a new laptop and did not want to have to upload 500 + cds again. It said when I signed up that it would save my info to the cloud, including imported cds, and they would show up on my new laptop. Well, they did show up, but I cannot play 80% of the songs! Why is this and how can I fix it? They played just fine on my old computer. I sometimes get a message saying this computer is not authorized to play a certain song and then it wants me to put in my password info so it will authorize it, but then it will say this computer is already authorized. Can anyone help? Thank you in advance.

    Hi,

Do you want your music on your new computers hard drive? If so, the best way to move your music is contained is this How to move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Support

If you just want to stream your music from the cloud, after opening iTunes and authorising your new computer, go to preferences and make sure iCloud music library is checked. itunes will now connect to your itunes music library and you will see all the music that you have in itunes Match, each track will have a download icon - you can download or stream the tracks.

if the tracks are still greyed out, there may have been a problem with the matching on your old computer. Check your old computer to make sure that your music  shows an iCloud status of Matched, uploaded or purchased.

    Jim

I have been reading through the various links to problems people have had with iMatch but none of them seems to address my problem, which is this:

As a Match subscriber, I have always kept copies of  all my music on my Mac Desktop and my Mac Air Laptop.  When iMatch was first introduced there was a menu item which enabled me to enable iMatch manually.  This worked well, but the menu item disappeared a few years ago.

Then it seemed that my music would automatically be updated from whichever computer I purchased it on to Match, and from there would be downloaded to both machines. In other words, if I purchased the music online using my laptop, a few days later it would be available on my Desktop, and visa versa.

A problem has arisen recently, where I find that music purchased online and downloaded to my laptop does NOT appear on my desktop.  What can I do about this? Thank you.

Thanks Jim, but this did not work for me.

I have turned on automatic downloads (in iTunes, >preferences, <store, <check "music")

As for downloading past purchases, this is impractical for me since I have over 1,450 albums, downloaded from CDs and a variety of online sources, mostly emusic.com.

I cannot under stand why the simple "update iMatch" button no longer exists. I used to be so easy. Another convenience that has disappeared is to be able to right-click a song and create a column showing "upload status"
