Q: Magic mouse disconnects while working

While working on my Macbook Pro the bluetooth connection of the magic mouse stops every now and then on its own. I have to wait several seconds before, on clicking, the mouse is reconnected. It looks like a connection time out, but I cannot find an entry in System Preferences where i can adjust this.

Asked for a solution in some Apple stores, iCentres a.s.o., but nobody has an answer that solves the problem. Anyone an idea? The problem started with the implementation of Yosemite.

    As you have upgraded to El Capitan you are unlikely to achieve full functionality with your A1296 mouse.   Magic mouse 2 has been specially designed to work with El Capitan and higher and is now generally available.

    Well, I bought me a brand new Magic Mouse 2 expecting the problem to be solved.

    It was a complete waste of money. Problem is still there.

    Hello Walt51,

     

    I tried to help before but it doesn't appear to have worked.   It is a fact that MM2 will only function properly with El Capitan which is now at 10.11.5. where your profile says you are.

     

    That being the case we have to check other things and the most likely would be interference.   This Apple document will point you in the right direction but there are more possibilities than mentioned here.  I read of neighbour's electrical equipment (largely in flats where you have party walls), Wacom tablets and pens are one of the latest, then there are spare mice with bluetooth facilities in the vicinity but not turned off.

    Let us know how you get on after checking out these points.    And as your machine is just as portable as the mouse, take back the new mouse with your machine to the apple store and challenge them to get it working.

    Thanks 71 for your help.

    So far I don't experience any difference in the performance between MM1 and MM2 (but for the size and the power supply).

    I'm checking out the things you mentioned, but there are to many variables that may apply.

    Yes, I live in a flat with four adjacent neighbors, yes I have a Wacom tablet and pen (moved them out of my "office" to see if it has any effect), yes I have a microwave in the vicinity (but that was already there before the problem started and I cannot place it anywhere else).

    There are too many things I cannot check off, so going back to the store is of no use.

    I'm afraid that I'll have to live with it.

    As you have a MBPro, and is portable, do you have the same problem elsewhere, say at a friend's house who perhaps uses their machines without problem.   And this is another reason to check out the MBP and the mouse in the store, where they have all the facilities to do it without interference.
