Clips black & not playing

Potentially a noob question here, but bear with me.

I recently fired up FCPX after a lengthy hiatus, to go back and organize a bunch of media. In doing so I realized that substantial portions of the clips that I had previously imported are now showing up as black and without any preview. I've relinked missing files in the past but this doesn't look the same. The video was previously imported from a Nikon D7000, and as I mentioned, was definitely working and visible when I was working on it before (1+ years ago).

Here's what I'm seeing:

I've been googling without much success. Is this a potential encoding issue?

The thing that puzzled me is that other old media of mine seems to be showing up just fine!

Help?

Suggest that you try a couple of things.

Select the event in the Browser and from the File menu, Delete Generated Event Files > All Render Files.

Quit and hold down the option and command keys when you relaunch. When prompted, delete the preference files. From the File menu, Open Library > Other, navigate to your library open it and see whether your thumbnails appear.
