Q: How to activate unlocked phone?

My iPhone 5 has been unlocked but when I take out my old sim card and replace it with my new one, it says 'SIM Not Valid' but it does say 4G in the top left corner which is new with this new sim card. How do I activate my iPhone?

That means it is not unlocked.
