iTunes update does not appear in app store updates

iTunes update does not appear in app store updates

Soooo, this has happened numerous times now. I will get a notification that there is an update for iTunes and as is usual, I am asked whether or not I would like to download it. When I click on Download Now or whatever the option is, it will open up the App Store and take me to the Updates page, but the iTunes update almost never is there. I say almost never, because last month, 12.4 actually did show up in the App Store updates, but this newest one that just came out yesterday and I don't know how many of them previous to 12.4 would never show up. I don't understand why this happens. I always have to go to the iTunes page and download it manually. I don't think I should have to do this, it is somewhat of a pain. Why would it take me to the App Store updates and not show the update?? Anybody have any experience with this or have any inkling as to why this is happening?

I just checked - my iTunes is at 12.4.0.119

This came with the update to El Cap a few weeks ago

Have not received any further notifications to update

Can you turn off notifications in  - Sys Prefs - Notifications?

The update brings iTunes to 12.4.1.6.

I will admit that the link between iTunes and the Mac App Store isn't always smooth, but it is likely an issue resident in your own kit.

I saw the update mentioned in the press. I checked for an update in my iTunes app and it reported that iTunes was up-to-date. I opened the Mac App Store and went to the Updates pane and the iTunes update appeared.

Yeah, I should have been more specific, 12.4.1 just came out yesterday. I don't want notifications turned off and it was not a notification in the side bar on the right, if that's what you mean. More specifically I wonder if you mean, can I disable iTunes from automatically checking for updates? I don't necessarily want to do that either.... Not that I think iTunes updates are that important, but I would like to know when an update comes out. I really just want to understand why the update does not appear in the App Store....

That the link between iTunes and the App Store is not smooth is an understatement at best.... I'm not sure what could have happened in my kit that could have caused such a disconnect.

The Mac App Store relies on Spotlight indexing to know what is installed on your Mac and to offer the proper updates.

You can force Spotlight to reindex your HDD.

Nice, thanks. Just did it and once I tried to remove icy HDD after adding it, I was told that I didn't have permission to add or remove that item. Did it again and did not get the same message, so hopefully that did the trick....

And so here we are again, with another iTunes update message that appears when I open iTunes and when I click on "Download iTunes" it takes me to the App Store and as usual, does not show any update available.
