Q: HOW TO UPDATE PAGE .html to play .mov - QT7 related

As a webmaster, I have a lot of .html web pages that display "Missing Plug-in" on my embedded .mov movies -- and I need to learn how to fix the issue.

For example, on lhis link:

http://www.gballard.net/gary_stokes/#multimedia

I get this error:

OTmissing.jpg

I know the problem is related to Apple's dropping support for Quicktime 7 in Windows, and I know how to restore the plugin in Safari on a local machine.

Further, I read:

If your web browser says that it's missing the QuickTime plug-in - Apple Support

and its HTML/Elements/video on W3.org

What I need to know — with my limited programming knowledge — are very simple, basic steps how to update my pages so my .mov movies play on .html pages, I'm using GoLive CS2...  thanks.

    I was able to view and listen to your QuickTime file and look at your HTML code. It's twelve years old and a Windows machine couldn't hear it because it was so out of date then.

    Browser plug-ins are dead. End of that discussion.

    Look there for the tools and code you need.

    for anyone else trying to find a fix or solution to solve the QuickTime 7 problem, you may find this thread on the Adobe DreamWeaver forum useful:

    That Adobe forum has a lot of excessively complicated information. All you need to do is remove the current coding for the player and substitute this code:

    <audio controls="controls" source src="audio.mp3" type="audio/mpeg">

    Your browser does not support the HTML5 audio element.

    </audio>

    The URL given there assumes the file is in the same directory as the page containing the player, obviously if it isn't you will need to provide a path. You can omit 'controls="controls" ' to have it simply play with no option to pause or stop. The 'Your browser does not support...' text is optional and is there for people with very old browsers. The code will work at least back to Snow Leopard on a Mac. Unlike the old QT player the appearance is not consistent between browsers, and you can't adjust its size to match an image. Annoyingly on some browsers, including Safari, there is no progress bar (below are images, not working players):

    Safari: Screen Shot 2016-06-06 at 17.14.15.jpg Firefox (Mac): Screen Shot 2016-06-06 at 17.14.03.jpg

    Chrome (Mac): Screen Shot 2016-06-06 at 17.13.51.jpg

    You can see a page with several of these embedded players here: http://rfwilmut.net/notes/noise/page3.html . The QT players which I had to replace were originally arranged to fit exactly under the waveform images, something not possible with the HTML5 player. (The link beneath the player to the actual file is not part of the player, I simply added it for the benefit of anyone who wants to access the file directly.)
