Q: I am trying to restore my iPhone 5 but am not getting the update/restore on my desktop. What do I do next?

I have taken over a iPhone 5 from my daughter who does not remember the passcode and it is disabled.  It was last updated over 50-weeks ago but I don't know what ios was last installed.  I have tried a hard rest using the power & home buttons but it goes back to the pass code screen.  I have also tried using my restore method on my desktop but when I get the iTunes restore view on the phone I am not getting the update/restore view in iTunes on my desktop screen.   What should I try next?
