Q: Help, Mouse no left click

Hi, I just had a problem with my Magic Mouse with a Mac Pro 2009 and OS 10.11.5.

It has been working very well until just this morning.  What happened then was my screen was locked so I click on the screen to unlock it.  My Magic mouse will move around on the screen but I cannot click on it to select any item.

After different attempt and no success, I tried to force quit and restart my computer.  After re-start problem still not resolved.

So I tried to start in safe mode, the mouse worked.  I can click on it and select items.  While I was in this mode, I went in and clean my Caches folder completely.

Then I reboot again to start in normal mode.  Getting to the login screen, same thing happened:  can move mouse around but not click to select item.

So I thought I tried this time with a corded mouse.  After connecting the Apple Corded Mouse and reboot the system, same problem.  But if I started it up in Safe Mode, it worked.

Now I just don't know what to do.  Both Magic Mouse and Corded USB mouse work properly under safe mode but not in normal mode.

So I tried my last resort is to "opt+cmd+P+R".  This does not solve the problem neither.  I tried to re-install my Mac OS also.  The same problem.

Hope someone can give some suggestions to solve this issue.  Thanks in advance.

Do you have a backup from before this happened? It would seem that your content is corrupted somehow

Thanks for your feedback and help.  Yes I had Time Machine backup as well as full backup.  However, I couldn't login my Computer.  So I could not try to restore from my previous backup.   Another other way to login?

That is why I tried to re-install over my original OS using Recovery Mode using direct download from the Internet for the re-install.  But that did not help to correct any suspected corrupted files

Log into Safe Mode and see if the issue persists - if it does - there may be a hardware issue

Thanks for your help.  As I explained above, I tried to login Safe Mode and the mouse works properly.  I also tried to use a corded USB mouse.  Normal boot up and cannot left click to select.  But if I booted into Safe Mode with the corded USB mouse, I can left click and select.  So it is not a hardware issue.
