Q: Can I connect a 12" Macbook to my old Apple 30" Cinema Display?
I have a new 12" MacBook which I can't connect to my Thunderbolt display but was hoping to connect it to my old Apple 30" Cinema Display. So far, no luck, just wanted to ask if this was a fool's errand or perhaps I was doing something wrong.
The 30" Cinema Display has a DVI port out, and until now I've been using it successfully with an old MacBook Air via an Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adaptor.
So I thought, "I'll buy a USB-C to Mini DisplayPort adaptor!" thinking I'd be able to connect 12" MacBook to USB-C to Mini DisplayPort Adaptor to Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adaptor to Apple 30" Cinema Display.
It's not working. I've tried two different USB-C to Mini DisplayPort adapters and two different Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adaptors, with no success.
Should this work, or is it doomed to fail? And if it should work, what can I do better?
Thanks,
Alan
