Q: Iphotos did not transfer with El Captain

I transferred to El Captain and my photos in iPhoto did not transfer. When I click to transfer the library "iphoto" it says that it cannot, that I don't have appropriate permissions. When I went into terminal to try to transfer per instructions, it said something about illegal procedure or something. I cannot find another option.

iPhoto should have nothing to do with the process.

You should just have to open Photos and it will import the iPhoto Library automatically.

 

If you are actually using Photos, and not iPhoto as you stated, then is the iPhoto Library stored on your startup drive or is it on an external drive?

If on an External Drive, how is the drive formatted. Photos cannot use a Library on a drive not formatted as OS X Extended.
