I am told that up-dates sometimes create problems.

I will sell my MBPro soon, buy a new one with

    that latest OS.

Thank you for your response… it's appreciated.

I understand but for your next Mac...

Generally speaking you should always upgrade to the latest possible system that you meet the specs for, as long as you have no “must have” apps that do not meet the specs. The idea that upgrades/updates cause problems is probably derived from discussions you see here. ASC is like an ER for folks for are having problems, mostly the sick ones come here. Not the hundreds of thousands who upgrade without difficulty, never visit here and go merrily on their way. Besides improved features, updates/upgrades bring important security fixes.

Things you should do before upgrading to prevent problems…

    1. If you have issues on your present system don't compound them by installing over them. Solve them first then upgrade.

2 Check HDD for free space. At least 8.8GB of available storage. Preferably much more.

    3. Check your applications for compatibility here…http://roaringapps.com/apps.

    4. Backup. Make a bootable clone SuperDuper! or CarbonCopy Cloner or use TimeMachine.

    5. Disconnect all peripherals, including USB hubs.

    6. After downloading the installer, it will be in /Applications folder. Duplicate it and then drag the copy it to another locations like Downloads, if you want to save the installer.

    7. Be patient, the download takes a long time and the install may look like it has died at times. Ignore it.

"Find My Friends," is not an OS X app, it is a iOS app only.

To use "Find My Friends," on a Mac, you would use it from the web on the "www.icloud.com," web site.

I agree with "macjack" too, about upgrading. Since everyone should have a full backup of their system on a external drive, there is virtually no risk in trying out an upgrade beforehand. Note that El Capitan, and almost every upgade have had record adoption rates upon their introduction.
