Jun 17, 2016 9:21 AM in response to garyp93720by Esquared,Prudent is the keyword here. That's the best layer of protection you can get. The rest is snake oil. But if you forced me to drink some, I'd join macjack for a tiny glass of ClamX.

Jun 17, 2016 10:04 AM in response to salgrxby JimmyCMPIT,the best protection is to keep your mac up-to-date with OS updates and securities patches from Apple. Keep your Mac OS software up to date as well. All other Mac Anti Virus solutions have never been truly tested with detecting a Mac OS X virus variant so their effectiveness is theoretical until if or when it occurs.
to add to that many of the free Windows AV solutions have taken it upon themselves to spam the users interface with ads to their pay for product (while protecting you from other "pop ups" that would possibly get in the way of theirs) so unless you want a pay for solution your choices can be limited unless you have a high threshold for your desktop becoming a billboard.

so from what I got from his response is don't use your computer basically. I can guarantee I won't get a virus if I don't use it, however I use it and I also use the web. So is there a good antivirus software for a mac or not. If you had a gun to your head and said choose what would you choose and why?
Linc's reply should be read by everyone. He clearly and detailed explained it all.
