I Just opened up a new note. I was writing using my new Apple Pencil and I noticed that the side of my hand is marking up the note. How can I stop that from happening? I thought that would not happen.

In the app Notability, for example, you can go into settings and turn on "Palm Detection." That will keep your hand from making marks while you use the Pencil. Like IdrisSeabright said, not all apps do this, however.
What app are you using? Not all note taking apps are Pencil enabled.
I Am using the Note app from Apple.
Not sure about Apple's Notes app being Apple Pencil ready or not, but try resting your palm down, first, on the iPad before starting to write in the Notes app.
