Q: Apple TV 2nd Gen no longer compatible with iTunes 12.4

Apparently when the last update to iTunes occurred it created a conflict with my Apple TV 2nd Gen where it no longer allows connection via Home Sharing and when I go to reset it by connecting directly to my iMac it gives the following error message:

I'm running iTunes 12.4.1.6 which was updated on Friday June 3rd, 2016.

So, do I have a brick of an Apple TV or do I need to roll iTunes back to an earlier version? To answer a question you may have, yes I brought it by an Apple Store, they were able to restore it to factory settings and verified my Apple ID and had it loaded back onto the AppleTV prior to me leaving the store.

Then, when I got the unit home, it still stated that it did not recognize my Apple ID and needed to activate Home Sharing (which is working fine for my 3 iPhones, 3 iPads, 1 other AppleTV, iMac, 2 MacBooks (one Air, one Pro) and 4 iPods) when I tried to reconnect everything back together.

iMac (20-inch Early 2009), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), iTunes 12.3.2.35

iTunes 12.4.1 and my Apple TV have no issues whatsoever working together with homesharing.

Obviously I have no need to restore my Apple TV, so can't confirm whether it's actually possible or not, but would be rather surprised if Apple have removed the ability to restore the Apple TV 2, especially since the ipsw restore file is still available to download manually on their servers

How's the internet connection from your ATV? What are you using for DNS?

Have you enabled 2-step verification or 2-factor authentication for your Apple ID?

My internet connection has always been fine.  It appears that the issue started somewhere between the iTunes upgrade and the recent Networking upgrade that the FCC required Apple to make on their wireless connectivity protocol at the end of last month.

I have not enabled 2 step verification nor 2 factor authentication for the Apple ID but I understand where you are going with that train of thought.

For DNS, I'm using 10.0.1.1 and have been for quite some time.  I have Time Warner Cable for my IP.

Also, to be clear, the ATV Gen 3 has updated along with the ITunes update with no problem.  The ATV Gen 2 is the issue.

are the firewall on  the computer enabled

are the firewall in the router enabled ?

if so are they set to allow the required ports

an software update could have enabled a firewall or removed open ports so what once worked no longer work

You say the ATV DNS is 10.0.1.1. That's the local IP or your router, which is fine. Is the router DNS set to auto or some specific value?

I'm asking this because it could not recognize your Apple ID, which indicates that it could not reach the Apple server.

Can you describe the wireless networking protocol update required by the FCC? All I can find is documentation of phone hearing aid compatibility, and deals with ATT and Verizon to support VoIP..
