Q: Apple Music track hangs when downloading

Hello,

 

Very often when I'm playing an album on Apple Music a track hangs when downloading. The download line is blue but nothing happens. Sometimes, after a very long while, is starts. When I double click on the track it goes to the next one and when I double click on it again the track starts downloading and playing immediately. This is with iTunes 12.4.1.6 on Mac OX 10.11.5. It was the same with previous versions. The Internet-connection is fine when I test it while a track hangs. I should add that I'm using Airplay, but it doesn't make any difference what device I'm streaming to.

    Hey wdonne! 

     

    Being able to download the music and listen to it without it being interrupted is important. So lets take a look and see what's causing it since you mentioned it was happening on previous versions also.

     

    First, take a look at this article here that helps out with the downloads not completing: If an iTunes Store purchase unexpectedly stops downloading

     

    What we'd want to do is reinstall iTunes to see if that would take care of the issue if the above steps didn't.  This article here gives you the steps on how to do that: OS X El Capitan: Reinstall apps that came with your Mac

     

    If it's still not working after doing those steps, we'd need to isolate the issue further to see what's causing it.  

     

    What we'd want to do next is to test it in a New User Account and Safe Mode to see if it would work or not.  (Please note that in Safe Mode, it wouldn't allow you to listen to it but it would allow you to see if the download will complete or not. After doing these two, it'll allow us to isolate the issue further to see what's causing the issue.

    Hello Steven,

     

    Thank you very much for your reply. I have reinstalled iTunes as you suggested and since the problem hasn't occurred a single time. So I think that fixed it. Thanks!
