Q: cannot reinstall Mac OS
Hi,
I have a Late 2011 MBP that won't boot anymore. When I try to log in, it freezes after the bar advances for a while. The hdd has already been checked and it doesn't seem to have any problems.
I tried booting Mountain Lion, Mavericks and El Capitan from the usb stick, but I get round circle with the oblique bar in it (would mean "access denied"). I have a cd-rom, but I don't have the original CDs anymore.
Recovery doesn't seem to be working. If I press cmd+R, eventually all the screen turns white and it nothing happens. When I try to launch the internet recovery (options + cmd + R), I end up in the same point.
Besides buying a CD from apple (which I don't think is such a good solution, after all, as the laptop should be capable of booting from usb, given that it also has internet recovery), what else could I do?
If I remove the hdd and connect it to another MAC, would recreating the recovery partition be a solution? I'm not interested in the data on the hdd.
UPDATE: After waiting for a while when entering internet recovery, the laptop simply shuts down. I suppose it might be a a hardware problem.
MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.0.x), null
