How can i ensure my broken iphone is safe to sell?

I sadly killed my iphone 6 by getting it VERY wet. Tried all the usual to recover it to no avail and as a result i am going to sell it. I erased the device via icloud, where it tells you it will complete this action once the phone is turned on again....which obviously mine won't. I then stupidly removed the phone completely so activation lock is off and it is no longer on find my iphone. Does anyone know if the erase will still occur when booted up? What is the safest way fro me to now sell the phone incase someone repairs it and can access information?

would appreciate any help

thanks

iPhone 6, iOS 9.3.2, na

I doubt anyone will ever "repair" this device.

It's a fool's game really. You'll never know what parts to replace. Having said that, activation is only off if you followed the steps to erase the phone in real time, or where it gets online next.

Either way, the device will start up in the setup assistant and unless they know your Apple ID and password, to use an iCloud backup, your data should be safe.

I would also suggest you make the terms of sale very specific about returning it to you. If someone buys it thinking they can get it going, you may get pressured for a refund when they discover they really can't. Also, the value may be really low.
