Q: HELP Mileage (Indoor Run) and Calorie Count Way Off

I have had my apple watch (42mm Sport) since it first arrived on the scene.  It has always been very accurate in counting my mileage when I run outdoors but it has never really been correct when running indoors.  When i run outside i have normal routes about 3-4 miles and the watch lines up with them almost exact.  However, running indoors on the treadmill that is a different scenario.  Since purchasing the watch when it first released and calibrating the watch to my settings I would normally run and the if I ran 4 miles on the treadmill my watch would read about 1/2 a mile further (4.5 miles).  In talking with someone I was told that it was more than likely because the treadmill has a generic setting so while if you set it at 6 mph you should get to a mile in 10 minutes it is possible that you can finish ahead of time if you are actually running faster than the treadmill pace.  I thought that made sense as I noticed looking around the gym when i run I am right up on the bar at the very front of the treadmill while others are more back in the middle, so i just figured i ran at a little faster of a pace and the watch actually showed it at a little bit faster of a pace.  Ever since running the last update a few weeks ago things have changed.  Now when i run on the treadmill depending on the distance i am about 1/3 to 1/2 a mile off from the treadmill reading in the opposite direction.  Now mile 3 mile runs are saying 2.7 and 4 mile runs are saying 3.5.  I have not changed anything, i run the exact same way and use the same treadmills so the only thing i can think is it is the watch.  was something done that is now causing an error using the indoor run feature on the activity app in the last update that released (OS 2.2.1) or do you think something is off in my sensor?  Is anyone else having this problem?  If someone could please help I would appreciate it.

I have also noticed since the new software update though that my calorie count is even lower than before.  Normally running 3 miles to start my workout and then finishing my entire 1 hour workout after that I would easily meet my calorie goal.  Now it gets me to about half of that.  Again, i have changed nothing but the software update.

Lastly, not sure if anyone has asked but i have a Nike Fuelband and the Calories at the end of my workout are way higher on my fuel band than on my apple watch.  I am not sure if that is normal or not.  I think i have seen threads about it but was not sure if anyone got a definitive answers.

    Hi

In respect of potential discrepancies in distance estimations, it may help to reset your calibration data and start afresh:

    - On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > Privacy > Motion & Fitness > tap on Reset Calibration Data.

To calibrate again, follow the instructions in the support article below, including:

    • Record Outdoor Walk and/or Outdoor Run workouts using the Workout app on your watch.
    • Do this for around 20 minutes at each of the speeds at which you normally walk or run.
    • Whilst doing so, take your iPhone with you, with Location Services turned on.
    • Allow your arm to swing naturally during the workout.

Calorie estimations depend, in part, on your personal information. To check that this remains accurate and to update it over time:

    - On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Health > Edit (upper-right).

Also, for the best performance from the heart rate sensor (data from which is also used when estimating calories), during workouts ensure that you wear your watch snugly on the top of your wrist. Apple suggests that you consider tightening the band before starting a workout and loosening it again afterwards.

Some third-party fitness trackers report total calories, whereas Apple Watch focuses on active calories.
