Q: Cannot record audio with Zoom TAC-2

I tried recording audio with Quicktime using a Zoom TAC-2 audio interface. I'm getting this error message. But QT works with other input devices like Internal Mic. I'm wondering what could cause the incompatibility when Zoom TAC-2 works with Garage Band and Mainstage 3. I like QT since recording is straight forward and I don't have to go through a lot of setups unlike Garage Band or Mainstage.
