Safari runs cooling fans fast

Hi, I have a strange problem: Safari after running for few seconds (i use MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) with El Capitan, with all the latest updates) makes the cooling fans run very fast. Looking at the iStat Pro widget CPU runs at max 30% and the temperatures no more than shown on the screen shot but the raves are high. When i use Mozilla Firefox occasionally this happens too. It must be some plug-in or strange settings. would appreciate any comments/help. No other programs much greedier on CPU, like AutoCad etc, do it.

Hi,

You may have a Safari extension or third party plug-in installed that's causing a conflict. It’s easy to troubleshoot.

From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Uninstall one extension at a time, quit and relaunch Safari to test.

If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.

Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect: Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.

Thanks Eric, Allan and Carolyn for your help,

I have removed all plug-in and turned off an extension (one only: Mathematica) but it did not help. the fans keep on rising the revs the moment safari is turned on to up to 6200 and stay on around this level. With Mozilla FF the fans rev up slower to about 4200 then start dropping off to normal 2000 revs. So this method did not work, i have put back the plug-ins and enabled the extension.

I have reset SMC as per Apple instructions too but it did not help either.

Here is a copy of the etrecheck report (thanks for this tip), maybe this will help:

Try a restart.

Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

Isolating an issue by using another user account

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

Thanks Eric,

I have established a new user with administrative rights and the safari was not causing any problems. So i went back to plug-ins again and removed all and put them back one by one allowing plenty of time. It seems safari runs ok after i removed SharePointBrowserPlugin and SharePointWebKitPlugin . so far no problems fans are running at quiet 2000 revs.

Cheers,
