Q: windows 10 iso not recognized as windows 7 or higher

Ive downloaded the windows 10 iso file from microsoft 3 times its saved as Win10_1511_2_English_x64.iso and any time I try to create a bootable usb it gives me this error "Boot Camp only supports Windows 7 or later installation on this platform. Please use an ISO file for Windows 7 or later installation." I don't know what the problem is I've searched all over the internet for a solution and i suspect my bootcamp may be out of date but can't find how to update it anywhere. another problem i have that may be related is when i start up boot camp assistant the second option "download the latest Windows support software from apple" option is grayed out.
