ApplicationsHi,
Messages > Preferences > Accounts > iMessages account.
It should say it is Enabled by a tick in the "Enable this Account" box.
It may require that you Sign In if you have previously Signed Out.
(the box for the Apple ID should still show the last one used and you have to add the Password (or type a new ID and it's password)
IF...
You are reading the Messages Menu > Status and have no other active account other than iMessages you can ignore what you are reading as it does not apply.
iMessages does not tell you it's status.
The Status item is there from when the app was iChat and only refers to Buddy List accounts (all the others apart from iMessages)
There are then only two ways the "enabled Account" shows it is not logged in properly:-
1) Every Contact goes Red and Says they are "Not Registered with iMessages"
2) Or when you send an iMessage it is immediately marked "Not Delivered" with an Exclamation mark alongside.
If I have not covered what you are seeing then I will need more detail.
