Tempered glass removal?

Hello, everyone. 🙂

I'm new to the Apple family - I got my iPhone SE a few days ago and I love it already!

My question is about the tempered glass for the screen. I got one and wasn't able to install it properly (there are some specs of dust and fingerprints cause I was super nervous, all in all, I tried to reapply it several times but it was a fail). I wanted to order a new, quality one (I decided to go for Nillkin 9H+ Pro) but I'm wondering if I can damage the iPhone screen somehow by removing the old one and putting the new one, or if the constant peeling on/off could destroy the screen? I'd appreciate your thoughts on this matter. 🙂

Conversely I know of two people that had tempered glass screen protectors where not only was the protective glass shattered, so was the device screen. It largely depends on how you drop the device, the height of the drop, and the material the device strikes. My personal experience is that screen protectors are a waste of money. You think differently and that is OK. Do what makes you feel comfortable. My comfort level resides in AppleCare+ as my experience with screen protectors has been less than satisfactory.

If you get a new one make sure you follow the instructions on cleaning the screen before putting the new one on. Make sure you are in a dust free area when you do it. Most people recommend in the bathroom running the hot water in the shower to limit the dust flying around. Take your time and do it right as well.

Peeling the screen off and on will not damage the screen at all.

I don't know. Probably not. Why do you need a screen protector anyway? They will not stop the glass from shattering if dropped. They are only a false sense of security and only provide protection against scratching, which is difficult on an iPhone screen anyway. Money is better spent on AppleCare+ which will provide two replacements in two years for a small deductible. Drop your phone with a screen protector and you will have to pay a lot more to have the screen replaced or an out of warranty replacement.

In my mind it makes sense to pay the extra to Apple for AppleCare+. You have spent a lot of money on the device, a device that operates in a less than ideal environment, is subject to water damage and dropping. In the long run you save money in my opinion. Besides when you get to the 23 month mark you can probably get a refurbished device with a new battery, screen and case for less than $100.
