iPhone SE crashes Linksys router

How do I avoid having my new iPhone SE crash my Linksys EA6500 router?

This does not occur with an iPad Mini or a iPhone 5S. The router has provided excellent service for nearly two years without similar problems. Most iphone feature are disabled. The iphone se has IOS version 9.3.2. Problem occurred as soon as I acquired the phone without any apps installed.

iPhone SE, iOS 9.3.2

What do you mean by crash? What actually occurs? I have seen various reports indicating that an iPhone hugs the bandwidth dropping other devices from Wi-Fi. Make sure your router is configured to the 20 MHz width only and also these suggestions:

Reboot Router/Modem: Unplug from power for 2 minutes and plug again. Update Router Firmware (check manufacturer’s support website for a newer FW). Also try different bands (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) and different bandwidths (20 MHz recommended for the 2.4 band).

Disable device prioritization on the router if this feature is available. Also disable any VPN apps and test Wi-Fi again.

It's not limited to WI-FI. Also brings down the wired connections. And why would the iphone se and not the iphone 5s hug all the bandwidth?

Why use 20mHz? Currently set for auto.

Has the latest firmware. No device prioritization used. No VPN apps. In fact, this occurred with the iPhone fresh from the store.

I have to reboot the router. Everytime I turn on the iphone se. Has happened every day since i have gotten the phone. It's definitely the phone, not the router.

Because if Auto reverts to 40 MHz it will hog all the bandwidth. 40 MHz is all there is and it has to be shared with all 2.4 devices like Bluetooth, cordless phones, etc.

Try your phone in another network, coffee shop, a neighbor, etc. If it does it there take the phone back. If not, I know that you do not want to accept this but I have been around these forums a long time and have seen lots of conflicts between routers and iDevices. I had to abandon my old Linksys router in favor of a newer TP-Link myself. Try a different router and test. Good luck.

FWIW below is a User Tip I wrote about Wi-Fi issues. Maybe one of them will help.

1) Perform a Forced Restart: Hold down the Home and Wake/Sleep buttons at the same time for about 15-20 seconds until the Apple logo appears. Allow device to restart.

2) Reset Network Settings: Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Rejoin the Network again.

3) Reboot Router/Modem: Unplug from power for 2 minutes and plug again. Update Router Firmware (check manufacturer’s support website for a newer FW). Also try different bands (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) and different bandwidths (20 MHz recommended for the 2.4 band).

4) Change to Google's DNS: Settings > Wi-Fi > Click on the Network, Delete all numbers under DNS and enter 8.8.8.8 or alternatively 8.8.4.4

5) Disable device prioritization on the router if this feature is available. Also disable any VPN apps and test Wi-Fi again.

6) Determine if other Wi-Fi devices on network are working well (other iOS devices, Macs, PCs).

7) Try device at another Network, i.e., neighbors’, public coffee house, etc.

8) Backup and Restore the Device using iTunes (ask for additional for details if desired).

9) Go to an Apple Store for hardware evaluation.
