Q: Exactly what speaker model will work with a late 2014 Mac Mini?

In Dec of 2015 I bought a new  late 2014 Mac Mini from the Apple Store on line. I want some external speakers for it.

Can someone PLEASE tell me the correct model that will work?  I have read several horror stories.

Thanks!

My OS is Yosemite 10.10.5

Any external stereo speakers will work if they can use a 3.5mm stereo plug. You will need to do your own research to find which ones have the highest quality sound.

Thanks!  I am not so concerned about sound quality as much as getting a working set of speakers.  I was hoping someone would be able to tell me exactly what they are using that works.  Thanks so much for your fast response.

Hard to do since you need to let us know if you want powered or unpowered speakers, large or small, and any other needed features. Do you want something you can get locally or online? If the former check out a local Best Buy who probably have a good selection. If online shop around at Amazon for what you want.

Not so hard. I only asked for info from someone as to what THEY found would work. I did not ask for specific desirable features.

But no matter.  I remembered I had an old set of USB speakers from a PC. Dug them out and plugged them in and they work great.

Not so mysterious or hard to do, eh?

Good to hear. As I stated at first just about all of them will work even the USB ones, but most people would prefer saving their two USB ports for other devices. Now, earphones are a different animal.

short answer is they all work

from a headset from an old sony walkman from 1983 to

a minijack to rca cable connected to your stereo

they all work because the 3.5mm minijack connector and the audio it provide are industrial standards

mine is connected to a splitter which connects 1 to a headset from skull candy and the other to a logitech 2.1 speaker set with it's own volume adjustment thingy

The Bose Companion Series speakers work great. I use them between my rMBP and 2014 Mac Mini. Great sound!
