Q: Why is it EVERY time I close my photos app

my uploading stops / restarts from 0?  It is seriously taking FOREVER to upload my photos and vids to iCloud.  I am getting very frustrated.  It is taking up so much room on my phone I can't update my apps.

Any suggestions on how to speed this along?  I even leave it on over night.  I go to bed at 1.5 GB of 4.63GB and wake up to the same thing

    Hello MommaJohnson,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I see that you are uploading photos from your iPhone to iCloud but it is taking quite a while. I'd like you to take a look at iCloud Photo Library FAQ, specifically, this section:

When do photos and videos upload to iCloud Photo Library?

When you turn on iCloud Photo Library on your iOS device or Mac, your photos and videos will upload after you connect to the Internet with Wi-Fi and your battery is charged. You can see the status and pause the upload for one day when you follow these steps:

    • On your iOS device, tap Settings > iCloud > Photos.
    • On your Mac, click Photos > Preferences > iCloud.

Depending on your Internet connection speed, the time it takes for your photos and videos to appear on the Photos app on iCloud and all of your devices might vary. Make sure you turn on iCloud Photo Library on each device.

The iCloud Photo app allows you to upload JPEG photos that are less than 16GB in size.

It's important to note that your Internet connection remains active throughout this upload or it will pause.

Get more information in our iOS 9 User manual, linked below.

It is taking up so much room on my phone I can't update my apps.

    If I can also comment.

Are you expecting to be able to delete photos and videos from your phone after uploading to the cloud to have more space on your phone?

If so, that's not how iCloud works. At best you can choose to optimize your photos on your phone which will decrease the amount of space they take up, but they will still be on your phone. Your videos will be replace db y thumbnails, and you can download them as you need them to view on your phone.

Forgive me if you knew that.

Yes I know I can't delete of my phone I just want them to upload to iCloud.  It takes so long.  Like I mentioned I leave my phone on overnight and nothing.  I just deleted 500 photos and videos from my phone and it still says it needs to upload 796 items.  I am in wifi area about 80% of the time.  It has the little motion circle going around but doesn't seem to be doing anything,.  Went to be least night, left phone on and plugged in and it said" Low Disk Space - Uploading 796 items"
Woke up this morning to the same exact thing!!!!  I am beyond frustrated.
