Q: I could use advice> iPad Pro or MacBook...recently sold my 2008 iMac

After moving into a small house and my computer needs changing (no longer need to use Parallels on my computer) , I recently sold my iMac 24" (early 2008) 3.06 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo with 1 TD solid state hard drive and 6 GB of memory.  The computer served me extremely well but was getting older and we really needed the space in the second bedroom which leads to my dilemma.

Before making as a purchase, I am trying to decide if I can use an iPad Pro as my home computer or whether I should purchase a laptop (i.e. MacBook, MackBookAir or MacBook Pro).

The computer would be used almost exclusively in the home for web browsing, e-mail, and uploading family pictures.  I do not edit video, play video games nor use spreadsheets at home.

I thought about trying to use an iPad Pro but getting different opinions from people in the Apple Store as one person said you could not sync/backup an iPhone to iCloud via an iPad but couldn't I just backup the phone with the app on the phone?

Also with photos on the iPhone or Cannon camera, could I directly upload them to the iPad?

I apologize for my lack of knowledge but I've been too comfortable on the iMac for the past 8 years.

Many thanks for any advice.

That is strictly a personal choice

if this is all you do on your computer

t exclusively in the home for web browsing, e-mail, and uploading family pictures.  I do not edit video, play video games nor use spreadsheets at home.

then a tablet is fine ( but it is no a computer and can not do many things a computer can do)

You can backup any IOS device using iCloud Backup

YOu can keep their libraries in sync using iCloud Photo Library

You can upload photos from a camera to any IOS device using the camera connection device - Import photos using Apple camera adapters - Apple Support

And you can play games on any IOS device and you can do spread sheets on any IOS device or on iCLoud.com

Foe me I use my MBA for photos, e-mail and web browsing - but you can do all of those on an IOS device - I just find the computer easier and faster myself
