Q: Bug using a Wacom Intous Pen Tablet with iWork?

Hello,

I use a Wacom Intous Pro Small for a long time. But since ca 2 weeks in Pages, Numbers, and Keynote I can not keep text selected by sliding the cursor over text. In the moment I lift up the pen the text is unselected. Using the trackpad works fine. Or just the cursor keys + Shift.

I installed some weeks ago the newest versions of Numbers, Pages and Keynote. I think after this the bug occurred. But maybe also after installing a new Wacom driver.

MacBookPro late 2007, newest OS.

Greetings,

Claus

Check if Wacom has updated tablet drivers again after the version that you installed. Otherwise, you are using a custom input device with third-party tablet drivers, and it will be difficult at best to determine specifically whether it is an OS X, Wacom, or the Apple application capability issue. If you have MS Word, does the pen selection that you describe work properly there?

Are you attempting to make use of Apple's Ink System Preference panel that only appears when a tablet and pen are detected?

Newest OS X is 10.11.5. Update to that if not at that version, then update the Wacom software if newer (and compatibility with 10.11 is specified). Retest.

I use for Wacom newest version, also newest OS.

In Word no problems, like in TextEdit or any other application I tested where I can select text as described above. For the moment it is only Pages, Numbers (e.g. selection several cells not possible) and Keynote (and I would say since the last update some weeks ago).

    Ink is OFF.

I tried the Wacom Driver ending with 12, now installed -20.

Did you find a solution to this? I have the same issue. Latest OS, Latest Wacom Driver. Problem is both on Intuos Pro Medium and Cintiq 24 HD. Uanable to drag select text, cells etc with pen. Drag selection is working with Trackpad. Annoying.

    Greetings

Hi Kjell. No, I have not found a solution. But a new problem: My old Intous 2 (?) is not recognized anymore. I have not used it for some months. I guess the problem with the older Intous and the new ArtPad occurred at the same time with a iWork update. No idea what to do ... :-(

Same issue, on a Mid-2013 MacBook Air running the latest update of Pages and Max OSX. The issue happened after updating to the latest Wacom driver. Trackpad, mouse, etc. work fine...the issue is only with Wacom-driven gestures (selecting text). I've had to start using Word again after fifteen years to avoid the issue (uck).

A "small" solution: Press (and hold) the Shift-Key while selecting text. The selection stays (?).

Get more and more annoying. My impression is that the Wacom Pad sometimes adds the Control-Key direct after the pen click, or makes a double click instead of a single click.

E.g. in Notes (Apple) just by clicking 1x on the notes (in the list) opens notes in a new windows (like after a double click).

    Phuuu, very anoying ...

thanks clausimausi - this has been driving me nuts for a week as I don't normally use Keynote – I even bought a new wacom tablet thinking mine was faulty. I normally use Google Slides these days - much better an intuitive!

    THE SOLUTION :-)!

You have to deinstall the driver and install an older one.

I installed 6.3.11-3a (from June 2015!) and no Wacom tablet bugs in e.g. Pages, Notes, Numbers or Finder.

I went to a local Apple dealer, tested my tablet on a new iMac -> same bugs.

Then the guy plugged in an other (new) Intous Pro -> same bugs!!!

Hmm, so it must be a driver problem.

Thanks this worked for me as well - wondering when Wacom will finally deliver a bug that has been pestering me for more than half a year.

Send a message to the support of Wacom to increase the pressure. I do not undertsand why it takes such a long time and that they could not find the bug on their own systems (where as they could reproduce it).

Thanks for the suggestion clausimausi. I just submitted a request to get the matter sorted out. Included the message below for easy copy/paste...

    Dear Wacom,

For about half a year the use of both tablets I own: Intuos Pen & Touch and my Intuos 4 at work have been acting up. Irritating unexpected behaviour in the Finder and many other apps. Problems with selecting text and clicks in the Dock delivering unexpected results.

Apparently more MacOS users are being pestered by this problem. I always try to keep my Wacom drivers up to date but now had to resort to driver version: 6.3.11-3a (from June 2015!) To get rid of the problems.

You can find more issues on the Apple forum through this link:

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7585938?start=0&tstart=0

Please solve the issues in a next release of the driver - I think it is crazy that we have these expensive tablets and the bug renders the use of this hardware irritating or partly useless.

    Kind regards,

    --Aadjan
