Q: Cannot download app from iTunes onto phone

When we try to open a game app (Word Streak, paid version), it automatically closes after five seconds. If we double tap and swipe up, the last screen remains frozen, no matter how many times we try to swipe it away.

We have the app on two iPhones (paid for it for each phone). On one of the phones, we deleted the app (held it until it wiggled, then deleted it). Whenever we try to download/reinstall it from iTunes, nothing happens, even though the app is listed as one of our apps in iTunes. After syncing, iTunes says all apps have been synced, but Word Streak is not on the phone.

Any help appreciated.

If the only option is to delete the app from iTunes and re-download it again, will I have to pay for the app again?

Thanks.

    Hi lekker!

I know how important it is to have your apps working. If you do need to download the app again, you will not be charged as long as you're using the same Apple ID that was used to purchase the app initially.  You can also follow all of the instructions in this article if you're still having issues:

If an app you installed unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open

Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities.

    Cheers!

    Alex:

I attempted to do a backup (NOT to the Cloud) but don't know if it worked. The backup got hung up on the app in question for a while, but then when checking back later, it appeared to have finished (syncing had ended).

However, I cannot see if the backup completed, per 4."After the process ends, you can see if your backup finished successfully in iTunes Preferences > Devices. You should see the name of your device with the date and time that iTunes created the backup."

When clicking on File > Devices, there are 4 options: sync iPhone, transfer purchases, back-up iPhone and restore. No mention of a backup being done. Any thoughts on this?

Secondly, does the latest version of iTunes work okay on a iPhone 4?

    Thanks.

PS. Couldn't find a way to edit my last post . . .

I *did* find the backup exactly where you said to look in Preferences (hadn't looked there before).

I suppose I'll delete the app and download it again from iTunes to see if that helps.

Still would like to know if latest iTunes works on iPhone 4.

    Thanks.

Have you attempted to redownload the app through your App Store on your iPhones? Go to App Store>Updates>Purchased (at the top)> tap the cloud next to Word Streak to download it. There may be some bad data in that existing file you have of that game. If the game doesn't crash after having installed it by the method I explained, that is probably why it was also refusing to install to the iPhone from your computer. It's worth a try.

You can locate your iTunes backups under Edit>Preferences>Devices. There, you will see all past backups you've created on the computer. To restore from one of these backups, you would want to do so through the Summary screen window in iTunes where you see the option to check for updates and restore your iPhone.

I haven't seen anyone coming onto the forum with woes of no longer being able to sync their iPhone 4 with the latest version of iTunes, and I'm sure we'd see it here if there were.

    Hello BBoiss:

I think I redownloaded it, although the procedure varied a bit from your description.

App Store > "Accounts" tab, selected "purchased", then double clicked on the Word Streak app. Then I sync'ed the phone, and during the sync, it indicated that WS was loaded on the phone again. Unfortunately, the same problem persists, the app will not open.

I'll try updating the latest iTunes, then redownload again.

Another question arose:  If all apps are present on both the phone and in iTunes, does "transfer purchases from iPhone" do anything and if so, what?

    Thanks.
